In This Issue: Student and Faculty Surveys International Student Enrollment International Programs Database Greetings from the FAEIS team at Virginia Tech. If you are not familiar with this important project from USDA/CSREES, click here to read about FAEIS and why it is important to you. For this newsletter we will focus on the international arena. The feature article below is an appeal for your participation in a new international module just added to FAEIS in January 2008 to enhance capacity for international reporting across the U.S. and for your institution. Three tables portray existing capability to report data that will be significantly enhanced in the future because of this new module.
Please join with us in strengthening the reporting of the global activities by enrolling in the international programs database and sending your comments and suggestions. "The FAEIS International Database is designed to become a key enabling tool as government and higher education institutions plan, implement and evaluate globally-focused agricultural programs. We welcome its launch." Hiram Larew, Director, International Programs, USDA/CSREES
The early deadline for submitting your student and faculty surveys has been extended to March 1, 2008. We will continue to send reminder messages to those who have not started their surveys. To see the status of your surveys, please see the FAEIS 2007 Survey Status Report. THANK YOU to those who have completed your surveys. International Programs Database (IPD) We hope your institution will participate in the new International Program Database (IPD) which has been added to the USDA’s Food and Agricultural Education Information System (FAEIS) 25 year longitudinal survey. We are asking senior international officers, selected deans and international offices to provide data on international teaching, research, extension, and outreach projects in agriculture, human sciences, natural resources and veterinary medicine. This database complements a NASULGC survey on international research and applied development. Please email faeis@vt.edu or call 540-231-4941 to acquire a password and free-of-charge help desk support to input your information. This initial step takes no more than 10 minutes to ensure your institution is included in the IPD and has access for continuous project input. The web link for FAEIS IPD is http://faeis.usda.gov/ipd.shtml The International Programs Database is an online, interactive, web-based data collection tool that supports query, search and retrieval, and report generation. Project information from non-U.S. institutions will provide opportunities for U.S. collaboration. Extensive development and field testing among leaders in higher education over the past 18 months led to consensus on the most important data needs and uses along with an efficient and user-friendly interface. Benefits of the IPD include access to information useful to develop funded projects, program development, collaboration with U.S. and international institutions, information for Congressional reports, media access, state and federal legislative policy and funding decisions, and other pertinent uses. It will also promote global initiatives in higher education and recognize international accomplishments at your institution and for your faculty. Products of the IPD include live updates and annual reports on the status of international teaching, research, extension, and outreach projects useful for policy makers, media, agencies, foundations and other stakeholders. It will show the impacts of global projects at state, federal and agency levels and information on sources of funding. A U.S. Congressional appropriation to USDA provides long-term sustainability for the FAEIS Project including full-time staff and help desk, data support systems, trend analyses and access to current information. Thank you in advance for your participation. Need Any Help? We've tried to make the FAEIS surveys as intuitive as we can but we know there are still some challenges when you are first getting started. We're here to help!
