In This Issue: Program Area Enrollment Changes in FCS/HS Greetings from the FAEIS team at Virginia Tech. If you are not familiar with this important project from USDA/CSREES, click here to read about FAEIS and why it is important to you.
Thanks to the more than 300 individuals that have completed the Triennial FAEIS evaluation survey!
Comparison of 1999 and 2008 Family and Consumer Sciences Enrollment Statistics We thought it might be interesting to review some earlier FAEIS data and compare it to more current statistics. We reviewed a 1999 enrollment report for Family and Consumer Sciences and made some comparisons to our latest data from 2008. Highlights: The top ten institutions for baccalaureate enrollment in Family and Consumer Sciences / Human Science (FCS/HS) have changed over the past ten years. Five of the top 10 institutions in 1999 have dropped lower in 2008 enrollments. Some of this change in ranking is due to institutions which provided FAEIS data in 2008 but not in 1999, such as Brigham Young and Montclair State Universities. FAEIS continues to add new institutions to its databases. This strengthens the usefulness of the data for all users.
See the list of institutions with their FCS/HS enrollment for 2008. Highlights: The order of the top academic areas by enrollment in FCS/HS has not changed much between 1999 and 2008. One exception is the greater relative enrollment in 2008 in Family and Consumer Sciences / Human Sciences, General, which increased from 6th in 1999 to 4th in 2008.
Highlights: There are some changes in the top five most popular FCS/HS disciplines enrolled by baccalaureate students between 1999 and 2008.The discipline, "Apparel and Textiles, General," increased from 12th place in 1999 to 3rd in 2008. However, the discipline "Apparel and Textile Marketing Management" decreased 4th place in 1999 to 12th in 2008.
See the list of FCS/HS disciplines with their corresponding enrollment for 2008. Highlights: The percentage of minority students enrolled in the FCS/HS program area has increased between 1999 and 2008 for students at all degree levels. However, the percentage of non-U.S. citizens enrolled in the FCS/HS program area has decreased between 1999 and 2008 for all degree levels.
