Statement of Understanding Regarding the Use of Information Gathered for FAEIS

The Food and Agricultural Education Information System (FAEIS) is a voluntary system designed to collect data from institutions offering degrees in the areas of Agriculture, Forestry, Renewable Natural Resources, Human Sciences/Family and Consumer Sciences, Veterinary Medicine/Veterinary Science and related programs. The reports are derived from self-reported data supplied by institutions. No specific efforts were made to verify the information provided by the institutions.

While there are a large number of institutions nationwide who offer degrees in these fields, the institutions reporting to FAEIS are generally members of National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges (NASULGC) and American Association of State Colleges of Agriculture and Renewal Resources (AASCARR). Other institutions are able to participate if they wish.

FAEIS data can be downloaded into a number of formats including word processing, spreadsheets or PDF files. FAEIS is not responsible for the manipulation of data outside of the current system.

Confidentiality of information is important to FAEIS, specifically for student information which is collected by discipline, by ethnicity, and by gender. The confidentiality of faculty information is also important, and with legal implications regarding access. The Federal Education Right to Privacy Act (FERPA) guarantees that individual student's rights are protected, so no data items for individuals will be shown by FAEIS. We have adopted the same philosophy for the faculty data.

We have also adhered to the standards set by College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR), which are that no salary data are reported for positions with fewer than four (4) incumbents.

If you have specific questions, please contact the FAEIS help desk on (540) 231-4941 or faeis@vt.edu.
